Ghost sign on Cranbury Road
I'm always on the look out for these but it turns out there is a story behind it as I found out when I posted it on the Reading Forum so thank sto them for the info.
"This is not a genuine traditional hand-painted advertisement. In 1991 a film was made called 'Let Him Have It" It starred Christopher Eccleston and some of it was filmed around the Cranbury Road area. They used the end terrace house and the shop to film some of the sequences. It was set in 1950s England, about a slow-witted character called Derek Bentley who fell in with a group of petty criminals. He was subsequently involved in a shooting of a policeman and was hanged even though it was never proved he was directly responsible. They also sand-blasted the last two houses before filming to clean up the brickwork. They looked absolutely immaculate! Like they'd just been built!"
