SD7678 : Ribblehead Quarry
near to Ribblehead, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

Ribblehead Quarry
Ribblehead Quarry began operation in 1943 producing high quality limestone for the iron industry in Durham. A powdering plant on site also produced lime for use in agriculture, toothpaste, cosmetics and scouring powders.
In 1998 the quarry had long been disused and the owners gave up their mineral rights and the next year handed it over to English Nature who are allowing it to regenerate with a little assistance, such as the tree planting which can be seen round the pond.
The summit of Ingleborough can be seen at top left.
