Hard to believe but Wodehouse tells us that when he lived here (1904 to 1914) a local farmer, Mr Tier, took his cows through here every day to be milked.
A literary inspiration :: SU7406

Visiting the splendid Emsworth Museum I picked up a leaflet costing 10/- (50p) entitled "A walk around Emsworth with PG Wodehouse". Starting at the railway station it guided me around what he called "this sleepy-by-the-world-forgotten sort of place". The names he encountered here inspired many of his most splendid creations: The Duchess of Havant, Lord Bosham, Lady Ann Warblington, The Hon Galahad Threepwood and his woolly headed elder brother Clarence LinkExternal link
