Bank Lane arches in Tower Gardens, King's Lynn
Bank Lane arches in Tower Gardens, King's Lynn
These arches came from a building that once stood in Bank Lane, off the Tuesday Market Place. The original building has since been dismantled but the arches were re-erected here in 1911.

The tower gardens once used to be a friary's orchard. When the friary was closed in 1538, the tower and the land surrounding it passed to the Town Council. The garden was designed in 1911 as a public park to commemorate the coronation of King George V. In 1921 it became the site of the town's war memorial. Previously, this part of Greyfriars was used to hold cattle awaiting market. The tower has since been completely restored and its gardens remodelled to show the extent of the 14th century Franciscan friary.
