SP2642 : Honington Bridge
taken 13 years ago, near to Honington, Warwickshire, England
Honington Bridge
This delightful and historic five-arch bridge over the River Stour is a scheduled ancient monument. Built circa 1685 (and probably replacing an earlier bridge) with moulded coping and stone piers surmounted by stone ball finials. A number of the bases and ball finials have had to be replaced after the originals and/or earlier replacements were stolen. Signs now warn would-be thieves that the stonework has been micro-chipped.
