Shepshed Watermill - Bevel Gears
This mill contains four of these gears to power four pairs of stones.
Shepshed Watermill
An early 19th century 3 storey watermill bought in 1996 and restored in 1999. A 17-ft diameter high breastshot wheel (restored and working) drove 4 pairs of millstones through two lineshafts. The next room to the waterwheel is the site of a sawbench powered via belts. The mill last saw action in 1939, a concrete bridge nearby was built by Germans POWs. There are several open days a year.
