Ford at Paddaburn
A permissive bridleway runs from Bewcastle over the moors and through the northern end of Spadeadam Forest. After cycling about 10 km on rough tracks, I came to this deep wide ford across the fast-flowing Tarn Beck, a tributary of the River Irthing. Even late in summer, I didn't much fancy risking crossing here, so turned back along forest roads marked "no public access" to cross the much friendlier ford at Potsloan NY6376 and regain the tarmac that way.
