Royal Python snake at Pili Palas
Proving that this North Wales tourist attraction encourages 'hands-on experiences' the young girl is handling a Royal Python snake.
Python regius is a non-venomous python species found in Africa. It is the smallest of the African pythons, with adults generally not growing to more than 90–120 cm (3.0–3.9 ft) in length, although some specimens have reached 152 cm and even 182 cm (5–6 feet), but this is very rare.
They are also known as ball pythons as it refers to the animal's tendency to curl into a ball when stressed or frightened.
Cleopatra is thought to have worn one around her waist hence the possible reference to their being 'royal'.
