Cabourne High Woods, Nr Caistor, Lincs - Mature Broadleaved Woodland

The NW corner of grid square TA1303 contains part of Cabourne High Woods. These woods mainly contain mature broadleaved trees with very little undergrowth for much of the year, although bracken is common during the summer. The terrain is not flat, but rolls fairly gently. The picture shows the start of an orienteering event held in May 2004. This event was the final of a national club knock-out competition. The competitors found that the easily traversable terrain (widely space trees, little ground cover and gentle slopes) was extremely fast.
