Shielhill Glen railway

The Caledonian Railway opened a short branch line from Dunrod on the Glasgow to Wemyss Bay line to the three sandstone quarries which operated in Shielhill Glen in 1868. The freight only line carried the sandstone to Dunrod in 7 ton trucks. The quarries closed over a 10 year period from 1876 to 1885.
