The Templer Way joins Chapple Road
The Templer Way joins Chapple Road
The photographer is on a narrow, but delightful footpath which runs parallel to the road for a short distance at this point. The footpath at this point joins Chapple Road (although mis-labelled as Stentiford Lane on the current 1:25000 OS map). A section of the stone track of the Templer Way granite railway can be seen. The gauge (width) of the granite railway track is 5 foot 3 inches.

Also visible on the left is a useful information board with information about the history of the Templer Way as a route for bringing the granite down from the quarries at Haytor to the Stover Canal and on down by barge to the docks at Teignmouth. The total run of the granite railway is around 8 miles (13km) and descends from Haytor to the Stover Canal a vertical height of 1300 feet(400 m). The track for the railway is all cut into granite blocks and was constructed in 1820 by the Templer family who owned the Stover Estate near Bovey Tracey.
