Fast Bridge on Wey and Arun Canal
Fast Bridge on Wey and Arun Canal
The Horsham to Guildford road (now the A281) was moved 20m to the west of its original line during WW2 when the construction of Dunsfold airfield required a wider, stronger bridge. The disused canal, then little more than an oversized ditch, was not expected to be made navigable again and so was culverted allowing the new bridge to be built flat. The original bridge fell into gradual disrepair until its restoration in the 1991 by the Wey & Arun Canal Trust LinkExternal link.
