Gaol Ferry Bridge was built in 1935, over the New Cut of the River Avon (work started on creating the diversion in 1804). The bridge replaced the Wapping Gaol Ferry which took passengers across the river for half a penny, 10,000 passengers a week. The bridge was built by David Rowell and Company.
