No.8 waits to depart
Vale of Rheidol locomotive No. 8, name Llewelyn in BR days, waits to depart from the former Carmarthen Line bays at Aberystwyth with a special for Devil's Bridge.
The ex-Manchester and Milford Railway standard gauge line to Carmarthen used to use these platforms until closure in 1965. At that time the Vale of Rheidol line followed a different alignment with a separate station just out of sight to the left of the picture. In the 1970's the narrow gauge Vale of Rheidol was diverted on to the last mile or so of the Carmarthen line trackbed and in to the former standard gauge platforms as seen today.
