Entrance to Brown's Hill ironstone mine, Holwell
The mine was in use from 1931 to 1943. The ore was taken away by a narrow gauge tramway: trucks were lowered down an incline and tippled into railway wagons at a siding on the Holwell mineral branch.
The entrance has been altered from the original square portal (outlined by the small blocks surrounding the new circular grilled entrance). The mine is now a home to several species of bat.
