Rocombe Valley - ancient settlement site
Rocombe Valley - ancient settlement site
This view across the Rocombe Valley looks over the farm buildings and houses of Lower Rocombe nestling in the bottom of the deep Rocombe Valley and in the distance can be seen the town of Teignmouth on north side of the Teign estuary.

The wooded hill behind Teignmouth is Halcombe Down at a height of just over 200m.

The interesting feature is the field in the middle distance with four horses in it as this was investigated by the Victorian, Torquay based archeologist, William Pengelly. He found evidence of a Romano-British settlement on that site and his finds are stored at Torquay Museum.SX9263 : Torquay Museum This same archeological site has been reinvestigated professionally in recent years.
