St. Augustine's Church, Kirkby
St. Augustine's Church, Kirkby
The church was built in 1815 on a site which was certainly Saxon and quite probably Norman.
In 1151 Adam de Aengelby 'confirmed to God, St Peter, and St Hylda, of Wyteby, to the world's end, as a free and perpetual alms, the church of Kirchaby, and whatever pertains thereto.'
Following the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII the patronage was granted to the Archbishop of York.
