This inscription, on the east wall at Godstow Lock close to the lower lock gates, reads as follows:

THAMES CONSERVANCY
GODSTOW LOCK
RECONSTRUCTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE PROVISION OF A CONTINUOUS REACH FROM GODSTOW TO OXFORD.
THIS STONE WAS LAID BY
THE LORD DESBOROUGH OF TAPLOW K.G. G.C.V.O.
IN COMMEMORATION ON MAY 19, 1928.
