New Market Hall, Bridgnorth
New Market Hall, Bridgnorth
An eye-catching building on the corner of North Gate and Listley Street. Pevsner describes it as the "magnum opus of a local man, Robert Griffiths", but it is also described as gross Italianate which doesn't say much for the rest of Mr Griffith's work. Polychromatic brick - red, blue and yellow - and a typical tower with corbelled arches. Grade II listed.
It was built in 1856, whereupon apparently traders refused to move in, and it is now a museum.
