Entrance to Gawton's Well
Entrance to Gawton's Well
There are no signposts to here, so a certain amount of guesswork is required. Gawton's Well is reputed to be a Healing Well- a local man was cast out from his village because he was so diseased, after he bathed in this spring he was cured and remained living close by at SJ9055 : Gawton's Rock as a hermit. It is surrounded by ancient Yew trees that are reputed to be a Druids' Grove.
