Naval War Memorial, Plymouth Hoe
The Plymouth Naval Memorial commemorates 7,251 sailors of the World War I and 15,933 of the World War II. The name of a distant relative of mine, William Halling, SX4753 : Names on Naval War Memorial, Plymouth Hoe is on this memorial, he lost his life on 1 November 1914 when his ship, HMS Monmouth was sunk along with HMS Good Hope in the Battle of Coronel off the Chilean coast. There were no survivors from either ship with around 1600 seamen losing their lives.
