These sculptures, 'Algol' (1968) by Henry Mercer used to stand outside Goodricke College, part of which can be seen behind them in this picture. This article (Link

) gives some interesting theories as to their background. It also tells us that they were moved to the new Heslington East campus, along with Goodricke College, in 2009.
