SO5917 : Hummingbird Hawk Moth

near to Welsh Bicknor, Gloucestershire, Great Britain

Hummingbird Hawk Moth
Hummingbird Hawk Moth
These moths behave just like miniature hummingbirds, hence the name. Their wings beat at between 70-80 times per second and emit an audible hum. Although not common, they are becoming more widely seen in the UK, particularly in the south. This is my first sighting of one in the UK.
