Hay Meadow, Egleton
In the west of Rutland Water Nature Reserve there are original hay meadows and hedges dating back to the farmland which pre-dates the reservoir. Managed in the traditional way to encourage species of wild flowers, butterflies and dragonflies that are rare elsewhere, the meadows are grazed by sheep after the hay crop is taken in the summer.
