NT1129 : Tweeddale

taken 12 years ago, near to Stanhope, Scottish Borders, Great Britain

The flat floor of Tweeddale between Polmood and Stanhope. The glen here was probably once flooded in the iceage. It has the appearance of a lake bed,the lake dammed by a glacier, and there are striking meltwater channels over surrounding ridges, where the water overflowed or ran off the surface of the ice.
Today the flat land is improved farmland for growing winter fodder while the sheep and cattle roam the surrounding hills.
