When I was a child, there were two places on my way home which held their own particular terrors. One was Llandinorwig Church graveyard, the other, John Ifans Saer's workshop, where he would often be working late into the night making coffins. I used to walk on the far side of the road, eyes shut tight, fully expecting the departed to leap out of their coffins.
