Turnover Bridge near Meaford, Staffordshire
Turnover Bridge near Meaford, Staffordshire
Bridge No 100 across the Trent and Mersey Canal.

A turnover bridge allows a horse to cross from one side of the canal to the other without having to be unhitched from the boat. In this image, the horse will pass under the bridge on the right, double back on itself to cross the bridge, then continue along the towpath beyond the bridge - on the left.
