I didn't quite get the whole of the gates and the stone cills below them to show the total extent of the rise given by these two locks, where the water from one is emptied directly into the other. The upper lock is always deeper than the lower one, or it wouldn't be able to fill it and allow the opening of the gates.
Note the wet on the walls showing how full the lower chamber is when equalised with the upper one. The total rise (or fall) in water level is 19ft 3in (19ft 3in (nearly six metres)
