Cardiff bay barrage and Penarth Head
Cardiff bay barrage and Penarth Head
The barrage was built in the late 1990s to close off Cardiff bay and turn it into a freshwater lagoon fed by the rivers Taff and Ely. There are five sluice gates and three locks at the Penarth end, and a cycle and footpath runs along its top, connecting Penarth with Cardiff Bay. Penarth Head can be seen in the background. As always, the weather is better on the other side of the gridline.
Although not 'ancient and historic' yet, the barrage is registered in the Coflein[1] database LinkExternal link .
