Rolling bascule bridge no.2 in Cardiff bay barrage
There are three locks at the Penarth end of the barrage. Each is equipped with a one-sided rolling bascule bridge. The road element and a counterweight rotate around an axle located above the road surface to one side of the lock. The counterweight is also above the road when the bridge is closed and balances near the surface when the bridge is open. A pair of barriers, automatic gates and visible and audible signals are intended to stop people from falling into the lock. The road is only open for non-motorised traffic and maintenance vehicles.
Although not 'ancient and historic' yet, the barrage is registered in the Coflein[1] database Link
