Sluice gates in Cardiff bay barrage
Seen from the eastern breakwater on the tidal side of the barrage. The sluice gates control the flow of water out of the freshwater lagoon. The water inflow from the rivers Taff and Ely as well as the tidal conditions are continuously monitored and the sluice gates adjusted to maintain a constant water level inside the bay.
Although not 'ancient and historic' yet, the barrage is registered in the Coflein[1] database Link
