Compare this photo of 23/09/06 with that taken on 18/05/06 to appreciate the visual impact of two large supermarket stores in the town centre of Galashiels.
The TESCO store is below the church steeple and the scaffolding at the building in front is at the disused government offices and former Scottish Woollen Technical College. Most of this building has been demolished, except for the red sandstone facade, which is being carefully dismantled for possible re-use in future projects in the town. The building at the bottom left is part of a new ASDA superstore. Part of the new inner relief road is completed up to the health centre on the bottom right, together with a new roundabout and bridge over the River Gala between the new stores.
