NR3994 : Scalasaig

taken 18 years ago, near to Scalasaig, Argyll And Bute, Great Britain

In 2001 an outbreak of foot and mouth disease caused a sort of national hysteria. Even road cycling was portrayed as an act of criminal sabotage.
Amongst this madness, the island of Colonsay declared that as all visitors arrived in one place, they could be disinfected, and very publicly announced that visitors were welcome. Here is the "welcome mat", ready to disinfect every visitor. Once sprayed, we were free to wander this wonderful island at will.
