River Usk flood defences, Riverside, Newport
Flood defences are being improved under a £4 million, Environment Agency, flood risk management project in order to protect 400 homes in the Riverside area from flooding at extreme tides.
The existing flood defence wall is around 70 years old, in a very poor condition and not strong enough to withstand extremely high tidal river levels.
The River Usk has a tidal range of up to 13m
