Tivington chapel of ease: north side, with attached cottage
Tivington forms part of the parish of Selworthy, but this chapel-of-ease - a thatched medieval structure dedicated to St Leonard - provided a more convenient location to attend services for the inhabitants of this remote corner of the parish. At some stage in its history a cottage was built at the east end, blocking the window; this cottage served as a vestry when the chapel was brought back into church use, having served as a barn in the 19th century. The cottage is now a National Trust holiday cottage and is still linked to the chapel by a door behind the altar (now locked).
