Brough Castle
Brough Castle
The starkly impressive Brough Castle stands on the site of a Roman fort on a ridge commanding the strategic Stainmore Pass. The village's name name "Brough" derives from 'Burg' or 'Burgh', meaning fort.

The keep dates from ca 1200. It is in the care of English Heritage.
