Swiss Cottage
This picture of Swiss Cottage shows the ,"allotments," belonging to the children of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Each of the nine children had their own garden plot on which they grew a variety of vegetables. Their father, Prince Albert, would pay them the going rate for their vegetables so they had some pocket money. The whole area around Swiss Cottage was a practical education area. A small museum to one side of the cottage is full of geological exhibits and artefacts from different parts of the Empire. A small, realistic fort, Fort Albert, enabled the boys to learn military skills from an early age.
