In 1894 the London and North Western Railway opened the Standedge railway tunnel, with a double track and a length of 3 miles, 60 yards (4806 m)
the tunnel is the third longest in Britain after the Severn Tunnel and the Sheffield to Manchester route's Totley Tunnel.
This is the western entrance of the tunnel that takes you
under the pennines to SE0311 : Tunnel End, Marsden
