NZ8602 : Boundary Stone, Sheep House Rigg

Boundary Stone, Sheep House Rigg
This stone is inscribed "Sneaton Liberty ... 1784". The word "Liberty" means an area where two or more manors were controlled by one lord. Other stones around the boundary are inscribed "Sneaton L" and "Sneaton Liberty Assize". It would seem the word "assize" has been removed from this stone although why is a mystery.
