Viewed from across the Fishpool the gentleman was enjoying a sunny July day quietly fishing in the lake on Biddulph Grange Country Park.
The Fishpool was created in 1903 for Robert Heath, the then owner of Biddulph Grange. Not only did it provide fishing and boating for him and his family, but it also provided power for hydro-electric turbines that provided electricity for the house and workshop- one of the turbines has recently been restored by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council for powering the visitor centre (

Archive Link ) ). Another use was for providing water under pressure to a series of fire hydrants, these were deemed necessary after a serious fire in 1896. The lake is also stocked with several varieties of fish with fishing permits available (
