33-35 Eastcheap
"The masterpiece of R.L. Roumieu ... one of the maddest displays in London of gabled Gothic", wrote Pevsner. Parts of this really do defy description - a picture is worth a thousand words: TQ3380 : Detail of 33-35 Eastcheap. The materials are red-brown brick with blue brick diapering, Tisbury stone dressings and Devonshire marble. It was built in 1868 as the London depot of Hill & Evans, vinegar makers of Worcester, and cost 8,170. Grade II* listed.
