The harbour entrance, Whitby
This view was taken from quite some distance away at Sandsend. It shows the east and west piers at the entrance to Whitby Harbour. The lighthouses date back to 1835 and 1855. It was from here that Captain James Cook set out in the ENDEAVOUR on his voyage of discovery to Australia in 1768. He probably picked a better day.
