Small shadows on a sunny summer Sunday in Ffairfach
A view SSE along the A483 (Heol Cennen) on the approach to the junction with the A476. The shadow cast by the bus shelter is about as small as it can be at this latitude, nearly 52 degrees north of the equator. It is near noon sun time (1pm British Summer Time) on June 26th, a few days after the longest day, and hence the highest noontime sun elevation, which today is about 61 degrees above the horizon. Only in the tropics (between 23 26′ North and 23 26′ South) is the sun ever directly overhead (elevation 90 degrees).
