Old Buckenham Mill - Gears
Old Buckenham Mill - Gears
The gears are perhaps unique in Britain, a screw and pinion used to turn the heavy cap. They run on a geared circumference ring and powered off the tailfan.
Old Buckenham Mill
Old Buckenham Mill is a preserved towermill built in 1818. Originally it had 8 common sails but now has four patent sails. Slightly famous in the mill world for having the largest circumference in Britain, it houses five stones. The granary next door had four pairs driven by a steam (later oil) engine. Inside is a large spur wheel bolted together in 12 parts. The mill is open several times a year.
