Restored Pilots' Cottages, Llanddwyn
These 19th century cottages were built to house the pilots which guided ships in and out of the busy slate port of Caernarfon, [then, officially, called Carnarvon]. The pilots also manned the island's lifeboat which, between the inauguration of the service in 1840 and its withdrawal in 1903, saved over a hundred lives. The cannon in front of the houses was used for summoning the lifeboat crew.
