Whitley Bay: causeway to St. Mary’s Island
Whitley Bay: causeway to St. Mary’s Island
Pictured after a brief but heavy downpour, a concrete causeway has been present since 1929, before which stepping stones provided the foot access to the island. Even the first causeway had a section that was always underwater so the role of the stepping stones was not at an end until causeway repairs were carried out in 1965.
