Bartlow Station: remains of the Audley End Branch Platform
Bartlow Station: remains of the Audley End Branch Platform
Forty-seven years after closure, the wooden platform at which branch trains from Bartlow to Saffron Walden and Audley End once stood still exists, part hidden by undergrowth. Equally remarkably, perhaps, it is still shown on the OS 1:25,000 map. The main station, on the Cambridge-Colchester line (now a private house, Booking Hall), is in the background; a path led from it to this platform, which had only a rudimentary wooden waiting shelter. For an idea of what it was like in the fifties and sixties, when the service was operated by a four-wheeled diesel railbus, see LinkExternal link
