NS4297 : Flow end of lochan north of Binnean nan Gobhar

taken 7 years ago, 5 km from Milarrochy, Stirling, Great Britain

Flow end of lochan north of Binnean nan Gobhar
Flow end of lochan north of Binnean nan Gobhar
The end nearest the outflow. The outflow does not appear until some 100m from the lochan so the water must filter through a huge plug of peat, reed and grass roots which effectively dam the lochan. I would guess there is a rock drainage underneath all that too - possibly a small post-glacial pool bolstered by increasing vegetation. After a very rainy period this August the lochan level appeared to be as high as it ever gets.
