The Battle of Philiphaugh re-enactment, 2011
A re-enactment of the Battle of Philiphaugh took place in a field next to the Philiphaugh Salmon Viewing Centre on the 13th and 14th of August 2011 where 200 ‘troops’ in period dress took part in an impressive and realistic display. This is the kitchen area at the Living History Camp where cuts of roe deer were being cooked over a log fire. The deer, supplied by Philiphaugh Estates, was skinned the day before by the cook and an assistant. The Battle of Philiphaugh was fought on the 13th September 1645 between a Covenanter army led by General Sir David Leslie who defeated a Royalist army led by the Marquis of Montrose.
