Whitespots Country Park, Newtownards (1)

Whitespots Country Park is the name given to what used to be known as “the lead mines”. The mines were located between Newtownards and Conlig. Lead was mined between 1827 and 1865. There are still extensive remains (given the passage of time) and the park is worth a visit for anyone interested in industrial archaeology. This is the stump of a windmill. It is surrounded by spoil which has become covered by scrubby growth.
